CYBERJAYA, 13 July 2026 – More than 1,000 participants from across ASEAN have joined ASEAN GeoAI Fusion 2026, demonstrating growing regional momentum in harnessing Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) to address real-world challenges and accelerate digital transformation.
Led by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the initiative serves as a regional platform to strengthen digital talent, foster innovation and deepen collaboration in building a more connected, resilient and digitally inclusive ASEAN.
The programme brings together participants, industry practitioners, researchers, and technical experts from across the region to explore how GeoAI can be applied to improve connectivity, strengthen digital infrastructure, and support evidence- based decision-making. It also provides opportunities for cross-border knowledge exchange and collaboration to accelerate the adoption of emerging digital technologies across ASEAN.
GeoAI integrates artificial intelligence with geospatial and location-based data to generate actionable insights for smarter planning and decision-making. Its applications span telecommunications network optimisation, infrastructure planning, disaster preparedness, environmental monitoring and the expansion of digital connectivity to underserved communities. The strong regional participation underscores the growing recognition of GeoAI as an important enabler of innovation and sustainable digital development.
As part of the programme, participants successfully completed Bootcamp 1, held from 7 to 9 July 2026 under the theme “Geospatial Intelligence for a Connected ASEAN.” Through expert-led sessions, hands-on learning and regional case studies, participants explored practical applications of GeoAI in strengthening telecommunications planning, supporting data-driven policymaking and advancing digital inclusion. They also began developing innovative solutions to improve connectivity, enhance disaster resilience and optimise infrastructure planning across the region.
The learning journey will continue with Bootcamp 2, scheduled from 21 to 23 July 2026, where participants will further strengthen their technical capabilities, refine practical GeoAI solutions and prepare for the programme’s hackathon phase. The subsequent hackathon will provide participants with the opportunity to transform ideas into innovative solutions that address real-world challenges faced by communities across ASEAN.
ASEAN GeoAI Fusion 2026 reflects MCMC’s commitment to advancing regional digital cooperation and nurturing future-ready talent capable of leveraging emerging technologies for meaningful impact. By bringing together governments, academia, industry and the innovation community, the initiative supports ASEAN’s shared ambition of building a digitally connected, resilient and inclusive region, while strengthening the role of GeoAI in shaping the future of digital development.
