KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Feb 2026 — Tajikistan is set to become a focal point of the international community as it hosts the High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018–2028, scheduled to take place from 25 to 28 May 2026 in Dushanbe.
The conference, organized by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations and international development partners, aims to accelerate the implementation of the global water agenda, focusing on water security, sustainable development, and international cooperation in water resource management.
The official opening ceremony will be held on 26 May 2026 at the state complex Kokhi Somon, while forums, side events, and the Asia-Pacific regional preparatory meeting for the 2026 UN Water Conference will take place a day earlier, underscoring the strategic importance of the event in shaping the future global water agenda.
The high-level conference is expected to bring together heads of state, heads of government, ministers, representatives of international organizations, global financial institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society to review progress made under the Water Action Decade declared by the UN General Assembly.
Heads of official delegations will be invited to deliver plenary statements highlighting national achievements in water management, implementation of previous commitments, and new initiatives ahead of the upcoming UN Water Conference.
In addition to plenary sessions, the conference will provide opportunities for bilateral meetings, exhibitions on water-related technologies, and cultural events aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and international cooperation in sustainable water management.
The conference is widely regarded as a key platform for strengthening global governance on water resources, particularly as the world faces growing challenges related to climate change, increasing water demand, and pressure on natural resources
