Kota Baru – An angry woman who publicly flogged an alleged rapist of her 13-year-old daughter is likely to be charged with taking the law into her own hands.
A 37-second clip shows the enraged mother whipping the man whose hands and legs are tied up and pants pulled down to expose the buttocks.
The video that has gone viral shows the woman using what looks like a stick or a cane to hit the man’s backside, body and head and scolding him as a crowd watches.
However, she is likely to be charged with taking the law into her own hands.
According to The Star yesterday, the incident was reportedly recorded at Pantai Seri Tujuh, Tumpat, at about 5pm on Thursday.
State CID chief ACP Lai Yong Heng said police had viewed the footage and were identifying the people in it.
He said the 28-year-old man who was whipped was admitted to the hospital for injuries on his head and body.
He was later arrested with another suspect, aged 22, in connection with the rape of the teenager in Tawang, Bachok, on May 22.
The 22-year-old man was also assaulted by a group of people before he was handed over to the police.
ACP Lai warned that those involved in the assault could also be arrested and charged for causing grievous hurt,
“People should not take the law into their own hands even if they believe they are right to do so.
“They must leave it to the police to act. In this case, we hope that the woman and the others seen in the video will surrender themselves before they are arrested.”
He said although the public could make citizen’s arrests and hand over suspects to the police under the Criminal Procedure Code, they were not allowed to dispense any form of punishment.
It is learnt the girl was raped several times by the two suspects in a house in Kampung Budi, Tawang.
