Melaka – Local state and federal agencies are ready to face floods that usually occur here during the monsoon season.
Melaka National Security Council assistant secretary Jafri Mohamed said the 24-hour state disaster operations room had already begun operating.
“The council and agencies will coordinate in channeling information and providing assistance to the flood victims,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He also advised residents to communicate with their Village Development and Security Committee or Community Chief, should floods hit their area.
To date, no relief centres have been opened although there had been reports of floods at certain areas in Jasin and Alor Gajah, following continuous heavy rain yesterday.
Jafri said the incessant rain had inundated the river causing its waters to overflow onto certain road stretches, but the flash floods subsided about an hour later. The public can contact 06-3333333 for any enquires. – Bernama
