HAMMOND, LOUISIANA — The strangled bodies of Baton Rouge, Louisiana residents Denis and Suzanne Duplantier were found in the backseat of a pickup truck parked miles away from the home they were kidnapped from last Sunday afternoon.
Baton Rouge police were asked to conduct a welfare check on the Duplantier’s home at around 10 p.m. on Sunday as relatives were concerned that they hadn’t heard from the couple, both in their 70s, since 1:30 p.m. that afternoon.
Police found the home in disarray and a safe open. They discovered that the Duplantier’s pickup truck, as well as Denis and Suzanne, were missing. Police used OnStar, a security service with a GPS tracking system, to track the couple’s missing pickup truck to the parking lot of the Petro truck stop in Hammond. The Duplantiers were found strangled to death in the backseat of their pickup truck, which had been parked in the far corner of the lot to avoid attention.
Police have identified two persons of interest in the apparent kidnapping of the Duplantiers, but it’s not clear whether the two are guilty of Sunday’s double homicide. Police believe it’s possible that the Duplantiers knew their killers as there were no signs of forced entry in the home.-TN
