PUTRAJAYA, Dec 20 (Bernama) — The government will answer all allegations made by the opposition in an anti-goods and services tax (GST) flyer distributed to the public.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said a GST team comprising finance and customs officers would answer each statement in the flyer, as early as January.
While he was aware of those behind the distribution of the flyers, he said the government would address each point through a flyer which would be distributed to the people.
“If the GST is not good, how is it that it’s being implemented in 160 out of 193 countries in the world?,” asked Ahmad.
He was speaking to the media after officiating the Finance Ministry Innovation Day 2013, Friday.
Ahmad also lambasted the opposition for relentlessly putting down government efforts to boost national economic growth, instead of giving an alternative to the GST.
“If we continue the existing sales and services tax, the tax has many weaknesses which cause the price of goods to multiply, and this is not a wise choice to strengthen the economy,” he reasoned.
He said the government aimed to improve the country’s economic structure so that it could withstand future challenges and cater to uncertainties.
