More Money – The Real Reason Mat Yo Left JDT?

Kuala Lumpur – “Yes, I will be joining ATM next season as I want to revive my career. I’ve been spending too much time on the bench (this season),” Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, more fondly known as Mat Yo, said last November in explaining his exit from JDT.

No one can begrudge him for wanting to seek more playing time. But the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, better known as TMJ has a different story regarding Mat Yo’s departure.

The New Straits Times today reported that the national striker had demanded a new salary of RM150,000 a month excluding allowances and bonuses for the new Malaysian League season. His previous salary with the team was RM80,000 per month.

“We have a very transparent policy, we only sign up players who want to play for us, and for those who are not interested, our door is always open for them to leave,” TMJ was reported as saying.

Mat Yo was out of form last season, often spending time on the bench as JDT won the Malaysian Super League. With that in mind, one would think that not many would agree to him having that big a salary hike. Nor would anyone at JDT miss him either! – mD
