Shah Alam – The search for beleaguered Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has become a wild goose chase for members of the media here today.
It is learnt from sources within the state government that Abdul Khalid is refraining himself from engaging the media until the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah returns from his overseas trip.
This after Abdul Khalid failed to turn up for his daily duties at the Selangor secretariat building earlier today.
A scheduled state monthly meeting with staff from Yayasan Selangor was cancelled prior to its commencement at 8am this morning.
Amidst the wait, members of the media were led off to a dead end by unidentified sources following claims that supporters of Abdul Khalid were expected to hold several peaceful protests to support him.
Abdul Khalid, who in the evening was suppose to attend the Selangor Football Association’s Annual General Meeting, also failed to turn up.
Instead PAS state executive councillor Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi appeared on his behalf, refusing to comment on the ongoing Menteri Besar saga.
Abdul Khalid’s presence, however, was only felt when he issued a statement accepting the Sultan Sharafuddin’s decision to wait for his return from an overseas trip.
“I respect and will follow the Sultan’s advice to wait for him to return.
“Before that, the state exco members and myself will continue our jobs as normal to make sure the administration and management of the state goes on smoothly.
“I ask everyone, especially politicians, to respect the decision made by the Sultan and to refrain from making any statements that could cause negative perceptions towards him.”
Earlier, the Sultan had rejected Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s desire to meet him abroad to discuss his position as the Menteri Besar.
Abdul Khalid had applied to meet Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah following the developments within Pakatan Rakyat yesterday.
