KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO divisional heads nationwide today made a declaration to support Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as UMNO president and Prime Minister to continue to lead the country.
The declaration was supported by almost all UMNO divisional heads with 147 divisions present to sign the declaration, in a closed-door meeting here Saturday.
UMNO divisional heads representative, Datuk Mohd Yusof Kassim in a media conference held after the meeting, said the declaration was a resolution agreed upon by UMNO divisional heads relating to the March 4 ‘Mahathir declaration’.
Mohd Yusof, who is also Batu Gajah UMNO divisional head, also read out the declaration which overall contained eight points including a pledge of unequivocal support to Najib as UMNO president, Barisan Nasional chairman and Prime Minister.
He said the UMNO divisional heads also vehemently condemned as well as were upset and disappointed with the actions of former UMNO president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who willingly conspired with the opposition and led the joint declaration against the Prime Minister.
“We urge the government to be firm in enforcing all provisions of the law, against any party out to jeopardise the country’s ruling system.
“We, UMNO divisional heads urge the government and the Royal Malaysian Police to take firm action in preventing any street protest or illegal assembly organised by any party, especially the opposition, for the purpose of inciting the people in an attempt to oust the Prime Minister in an undemocratic way,” he said.
He said the divisional leaders also urged the government to immediately remove all posts held by former UMNO and Barisan Nasional leaders in government or government-linked companies, from those involved in the Mahathir declaration.
He said the divisional heads strongly condemned the actions of certain UMNO leaders who were still holding posts, especially Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, and had conspired with the opposition to topple Najib.
“We strongly urge the UMNO Supreme Council and the Disciplinary Board to take disciplinary action against UMNO members involved with the Mahathir declaration,” he added.
The group also pledged to work together to maintain harmony among the people of diverse races and religions and to guide the people in their respective areas.
Meanwhile Subang UMNO divisional head, Datuk Zein Isma said all divisional heads present and absent supported the declaration, except for three divisions, namely Pagoh, Jerlun and Semporna.
Zein Isma said the one-hour meeting today was to discuss and agree upon the declaration.
Also present were Hulu Terengganu UMNO divisional chief, Datuk Jailani Johari, who is also the Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister and Sri Gading divisional chief, Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi who is also Deputy Transport Minister. – BERNAMA
