Johor Baru – A 32-year-old man crossing the road with his four-year-old stepdaughter in his arms, were both knocked down in a hit-and-run accident at 5.05am today.
Ellyas Salleh died on the spot, while his stepdaughter Julia Alsiana Nasyirah Agi Kasumi died at about 12pm at the intensive care unit of the Sultan Ismail Hospital (SIH) here seven hours later.
The incident occured at Kilometre 7 of the Jalan Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi.
Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) 2841 Taman Cendana chairman Ridzuan Muntok, who was at the SIH, said Ellyas’ wife, Wati Daman, 29, had already crossed the road when she heard a thud.
“Wati turned and saw that Ellyas and her youngest child were lying on the road. The driver of the car did not even stop to check on the victims.
“An eyewitness has noted the license plate of the car,” Ridzuan said.
Ridzuan said the couple were going home in Taman Cendana when the tragedy occurred.
“The victim married Wati three months ago. Wati has two other daughters, who were not with them at the time of the incident,” he said.
Both husband and wife were helping out a school canteen.
At Press time, police have yet to receive any report from the driver.
