Kuala Lumpur – Suspended PKR activist Badrul Hisham Shahrin claims that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has a role in Selangor palace’s decision to strip Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of his datukship.
Badrul Hisham, popularly known as Chegubard, pointed out that Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had agreed to withdraw Anwar’s datukship after consulting Dewan Di-Raja Selangor (Council of the Royal Court), of which Azmin is a member.
“The members of Dewan Di-Raja consist of the royalty, community leaders and high-ranking officers from the state government.
“I am sure that he (Azmin) was there sitting next to the sultan and agreed with the decision to strip Anwar’s datukship, and labelled him a betrayer,” he said here yesterday.
Badrul Hisham also alleged that Azmin might try to use the power of the palace to masquerade his move to oust Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, from their positions as PKR adviser and president respectively.
“After successfully lobbying himself to become the Selangor menteri besar, there is a possibility that he will use the power of the palace to oust Anwar as the state economic adviser.”
Badrul Hisham had, earlier this year, been suspended indefinitely by PKR for criticising the party’s election process.
It was reported on Friday that Sultan Sharafuddin, after consulting the council, had decided to strip Anwar’s datukship effective Nov 3. The decision was made due to Anwar’s actions that were deemed as questioning the authority of the sultan and the institution of Malay rulers during the recent Selangor leadership crisis.
Anwar was also said to have questioned the sultan’s executive power as head of Islam in the state.
In a separate matter, Badrul Hisham, who is a former PKR supreme council member, revealed the five Pakatan assemblymen from Selangor who allegedly withdrew, via statutory declarations, their support for Dr Wan Azizah’s candidacy for the state menteri besar post.
They are Dr Xavier Jayakumar (PKR — Seri Andalas), Amirudin Shaari (PKR — Batu Caves), Shuhaimi Shafiei (PKR — Sri Muda), R. Rajiv (DAP — Bukit Gasing) and Ng Sze Han (DAP — Kinrara).
He claimed that the five had done so a few days after pledging their support for Dr Wan Azizah at
the height of the Selangor leadership crisis.
“I had made a police report today to determine the legitimacy of the letters (SDs),” he said, adding that a copy of the letters had also been sent to the party disciplinary board.
Badrul Hisham was reported earlier as claiming that Dr Wan Azizah had lost her opportunity to become the Selangor menteri besar after the five singed separate SDs supporting Azmin.
Xavier has previously denied this and had said he would lodge a police report on the mater.
Azmin had took over the menteri besar post from his rival Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in September, after the latter was forced out by the PKR leadership before serving out his second five-year term. – NST
