Georgetown – The Penang Enforcement Unit of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) seized fake branded bags worth RM 50,000 at Batu Ferringhi night market last night.
The deputy chief enforcement officer Jamal Nor Ahmad Harun said 426 such bags were confiscated at five premises in the popular tourists hangout area in an operation between 8pm to 11 pm.
“The bags seized during the operations were Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada and the price range for each bag is from RM 50 to RM 500,” he said at a press conference.
He said that the trademarks owner from Global Trade Shield Sdn Bhd in Hong Kong had detected the material, logo and the shape of the bags were exactly the same as original the one.
Jamal added they are still tracking for the supplier of the seized bags.
He, however, said original source will be difficult to trace as the bags were sent via courier service, private lorry and parcel post.
He also said that there were 120 premises which were selling these fake products in the area , adding actions will be taken against these premises to preserve the the state’s image as a tourist destination. – The Sun
