Rompin – Police have identified the family of six who were killed on the eve of Aidiladha in a three-vehicle collision at Km142 Kuantan-Segamat highway, near Cenderawasih.
District police chief Deputy Superinten dent Johari Jahaya said the victims were identified as Perodua Alza multi purpose vehicle driver Azhar Mat Ali, 43, his first wife, Zaliha Johar, 42, second wife Siti Habibah Kasbon, 43 and Zaliha’s children – Mohd Wazin Azhar, 20, Ain Nadiah Azhar, 13 and Ain Najihah Azhar, 12.
Johari said the group were travelling from Segamat, Johor, to Azhar’s hometown in Keratong 2, Bandar Tun Razak here when the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered towards the opposite lane before crashing into an oncoming express bus.
“The bus with 26 passengers was heading to Segamat from Kuantan.
The bus driver is warded at Segamat Hospital with injuries to his eye and a nine-month-old girl (passenger) suffered minor bruises on the head.
“A Perodua Myvi, which was trailing the Alza, managed to avoid crashing into the car and landed in a drain by the roadside. The 32-year-old driver escaped unhurt,” he said.
Investigations revealed the 8.20pm accident, which involved a Perodua Alza, Mara Liner express bus and Perodua Myvi, could have been resulted by slippery road conditions caused by heavy downpour.
