Kuala Lumpur – Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar wants all parties to stop making any statement on boycotting businesses over the price hike issue.
On his Twitter page, Khalid said such statements could disrupt racial harmony in this country.
“Boycott issue, @PDRMsia ask all parties to immediately exercise restraint in making public statements. It hurts our racial harmony,” he said.
Earlier, Khalid also issued a statement on his Twitter page that police would be calling Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to record his statement on the issue and that PDRM would ensure that racial harmony was respected.
Ismail Sabri’s uploaded status on his Facebook page had called on consumers to use their power to put pressure on wholesalers and traders who refused to lower the price of goods despite the drop in oil price, by boycotting their businesses.
However, he later clarified that his statement was a personal opinion and not directed at the Chinese community but at the profiteering businesses. – Bernama
