Georgetown – More than 300 avid Imax fans thronged Gurney Paragon to experience the state-of-the-art concave screen for the first time at the cinema here, all clad in Spiderman costumes.
The bright red-and-blue-coloured costumes, synonymous to the superhero, were distributed by TGV Cinemas.
Many waited for more than two hours in line to catch the movie The Amazing Spiderman 2 — Rise of Electro.
They were all part of TGV Cinema’s attempt to make it into the Guinness World Book of Records for the most moviegoers clad in costumes set to experience their first Imax movie.
Bakhtiar Bajuri, 40, a sales assistant, when met at 9pm, said he had been waiting since 6.25pm after work.
“I’m excited as we finally have Imax in Penang,” he said.
College student Yong Chuin Huat, 23, came all the way from Butterworth and waited in line for three hours to collect his Spidey costume before entering the cinema at 9.30pm.
Present to celebrate the launch were TGV Cinemas chief executive officer Gerald V Dibbyawan and Imax’s director of Theatre Marketing in Asia Tamon Iwasaki.
